Skiing in the Kaunertal
A SKIING REGION BLESSED WITH NATURAL SNOW
In the glacier ski area, the first lifts are situated at 2,190 metres above sea level and carry winter sports enthusiasts up to over 3,000 metres. That’s why the winter season in the Kaunertal and its holiday villages starts earlier than in other places, from the end of September or mid-October, depending on snow conditions.
The slopes and backcountry are blessed with plenty of natural and deep snow all winter long. When spring finally peeps around the glacier around mid-March, skiing is twice the delight, with ski tour options away from the masses and the Snowpark Kaunertal. At this time of year, the mountain restaurant’s panorama terraces are the perfect place to soak up the sun. And earlier than in other places, as well, as the terraces are closer to the sky and there is hardly any waiting time at the lifts and restaurant.

OTHER THINGS YOU MIGHT NEED TO KNOW
To get to Kaunertal Glacier, take the postbus from the hamlet of Platz. If you have a valid ski pass, the postbus is free of charge. Make sure you take in the view on the Kaunertal Glacier Road – it is said to be legendary. Depending on snow conditions, the ski season on Kaunertal Glacier lasts until well into May.
Ski passes in the Kaunertal area are always valid for the Kaunertal Glacier ski area as well as the family-friendly ski area on Fendels winter mountain (ski bus) and the charming Espen village lift in Feichten. Children under the age of seven that are accompanied by a parent ski at no extra charge. Senior citizens aged 80 years and over ski for free.
SKI 6 – MORE SKI AREAS, MORE KILOMETRES ON THE SLOPES
If you enjoy a bit of variety, we recommend the Ski 6 pass, an association pass for the Kaunertal Glacier, Fendels, Venet, Serfaus, Fiss-Ladis, Nauders and Ischgl-Samnaun ski areas. These can all be reached in no more than 45 minutes by car. Which might make some say “cowabunga”. Here in Tyrol, we say: Ski Heil!
